Our commitment

West Sandy Steel is working to make westsandysteel.com usable by everyone who wants to shop our AR500 targets, stands, and hardware, including customers who browse with screen readers, keyboard navigation, screen magnification, voice control, or other assistive technology. Accessibility is treated as an ongoing part of how we build and maintain the site, not a one-time project. Should you have any difficulty with using the website related to WCAG/ADA issues, contact us at westsandysteel@gmail.com for assistance and we will help in any way possible.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. WCAG has three levels of conformance, which are Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

westsandysteel.com is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not yet fully meet the standard. We are also tracking WCAG 2.2 Level AA and intend to align with it as we remediate.

We reference these guidelines because the U.S. Department of Justice has repeatedly identified WCAG as a measure of accessible web design under the Americans with Disabilities Act, and because they represent current best practice for commercial websites.

Measures we take

To support accessibility across the site, West Sandy Steel:

  • Includes accessibility as a requirement when evaluating themes, plugins, and third-party services
  • Writes descriptive alternative text for product photography so target profiles, sizes, and mounting hardware are described rather than left unlabeled
  • Maintains a logical heading structure on product, category, and informational pages
  • Checks color contrast on buttons, pricing, and body copy against WCAG minimum ratios
  • Keeps forms labeled and error messages tied to the field that caused them
  • Reviews new pages and product listings before they go live
  • Assigns accessibility responsibility to a named person rather than leaving it unowned

Compatibility

westsandysteel.com is designed to work with current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge on desktop and mobile, used together with assistive technology such as NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. The site may not perform reliably on browsers older than three major versions, or on Internet Explorer, which no longer receives security updates.

Technical specifications

Accessibility of westsandysteel.com relies on HTML, WAI-ARIA, CSS, and JavaScript. The site is built on WordPress with WooCommerce. Where those platforms or their extensions produce markup we do not directly control, we work with the vendor or replace the component.

Known limitations and areas of continuous improvement

We want to be direct about where the site falls short. The following areas are known or suspected gaps, and remediation is in progress:

  • Product variation selectors. WooCommerce variation dropdowns for plate thickness, size, and paddle options may not announce state changes clearly to screen readers when price and availability update.
  • Older product images. Some product photographs added before our alt text standard was adopted may carry generic or missing alternative text.
  • PDF documents. Any specification sheets or instructions offered as PDF may not be fully tagged for screen reader use.
  • Third-party checkout and payment components. Payment fields rendered by our processor are governed by that vendor’s code. We monitor their accessibility posture and will raise defects with them.
  • Embedded video. Product demonstration or range footage hosted on third-party platforms may lack captions or audio description.

If you hit one of these, or something we have not listed, contact us and we will get you the information or complete the order another way.

How we assess accessibility

West Sandy Steel evaluates the site through a combination of automated testing and manual review, including keyboard-only navigation and screen reader testing of the primary shopping path from category page through checkout. Automated tools catch only a portion of accessibility defects, so manual review carries the weight.
